This stone panel is actually the Arms of the Plumptre family who owned Plumptre House that stood on this site and was demolished in 1853 It is easy to make out the shield surmounted by a helm but the side appendages are beyond my comprehension. A clear interpretation of the shield will be found on the side of Plumptre Hospital, Poplar Street (See separate item) | |
