Sneinton Hermitage

Sneinton

This is one of the few Hermitage caves that survive. Most were lost with the coming of the railways that cut through the area or as a result of slum clearance soon after.

They were all man made and would have had brick / stone fronts on them when they were occupied. Some were just extra rooms cut into the sandstone to the rear of more conventional houses of the day
