The Forest Recreation Ground

This This park takes its name from Sherwood Forest which in medieval times used to cover the whole area right up to the city which was then very much smaller. It was formed following the Enclosure Act of 1845 when the land was set aside for the recreational purposes of the people of Nottingham. The Forest Football Club once played here and it was also the home of the Nottingham Race Course (Horses), before both were re-located to their present positions.

The park is roughly divided into two, the southern half being a wooded slope with several pathways that run down from Forest Road to a central roadway. The other half of the park is used for events such as the famous Goose Fair and in recent years a large area has been given over to 'Park & Ride'. There is not a lot to see in The Forest but it's a great place to get some exercise and for children to let off steam.
