The Albert Ball VC Memorial Homes Church Street, Lenton These beautiful homes were built by Mr. Albert Ball Senior and his wife as a lasting memorial to the son they had lost, killed in action. They housed the widows and mothers of Lenton servicemen killed in the war. They were designed by a Col. A. W. Brewill and opened on September 7th 1922. Note the model of Ball's biplane on top of the weather vane. This building is full of detail and exactly the right scale and proportions for the site on which it stands. It should serve as a shining example to today's architects and designers of box like care & residential homes for the elderly as to what they could achieve if they just tried a little harder. © Ray Teece 24-07-2007 NB004001 |
